The Friends Celebrate 75 Years of Advocacy

The halls of the library were alive with the sounds of music on June 17 as more than 20 talented Garden City student musicians performed at the Friends "Summer of Celebration" meeting. The students—in the midst of a packed finals week—selected their own pieces, prepared them independently, and delivered spirited, polished performances that captivated the audience. 

The evening also celebrated the Friends' 75th anniversary. While much has changed since the organization was founded, its mission has remained the same: a deep commitment to literacy and our community.

The Friends' impact can be seen throughout Garden City: free books for visitors to the Garden City Pool, museum passes to destinations across Long Island and New York City, and popular book sales that encourage a love of reading through affordable books. Those sales also promote sustainability by giving thousands of books new homes.

These events also frequently involve partnering with local students for bake sales giving young people opportunities to develop entrepreneurial skills and community spirit.
